Homemade BBQ Sauce (on braised chicken thighs)

Adapted from the Neely’s BBQ Sauce: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/down-home-with-the-neelys/neelys-bbq-sauce-recipe/index.html

This bbq sauce is awesome, easy, and was delicious on the chicken. I kept leftovers of it and used it on turkey sandwiches during the week. Awesome!

yields: for 6 chicken thighs with about 1/4 cup leftover

1 cup ketchup
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
2 1/2 T. brown sugar
2 T. sugar
1 t. soy sauce
1/2 t. franks hot sauce
salt and pepper
1/4 t. ground mustard
1/2 lemon, juiced

boneless chicken thighs

To make sauce, combine all the ingredients into a small pot. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 45 minutes.

In a cast iron skillet, brown chicken in olive oil, salt and pepper. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cover chicken with bbq sauce and finish cooking in the oven for 45 minutes. Baste the chicken with bbq sauce every 15 minutes. Remove chicken from the oven and baste with bbq sauce one more time. Serve warm.
